BMW F1 Nurburgring Nordschleife Nick Heidfeld [ONBOARD]

BMW F1 Nurburgring Nordschleife – Nick Heidfeld onboard video (note: video is mixed footage of all 3 laps) The 24433 km variant was used: Nordschleife + GP Strecke: Mercedesarena/kurtzambindung (so not the full GP track). Laptimes were 8:12, 8:30, and 7:29 (new record). The previous record for this 24km layout was 8:06 (Jurgen Alzen, Porsche 996 Turbo VLN, at 11-6-2005). Note: Heidfeld’s 7:29 CANNOT be compared to the old records of Lauda (6:58) and Bellof (6:11), because the track is now a different length: In the days of Lauda is was 22,8 km and Bellof drove it on the 20 km layout. Also did Heidfeld slow down at the 2 main straights, for fotoshooting. The car was modified with short gears, allowing only a topspeed of 275 km/h. They also used Brigestone Demo tires, “these have no grip”, according to Heidfeld. This video is a montage with the slow-down parts removed, and shows that Heidfeld COULD have driven a 6:40 lap that day. BMW engineers even estimate a 5:30 lap would be possible if the restrictions would be removed.

@Rotard12a Driving an F1 is EXTREMELY demanding.

  2. Rotard12a on April 19, 2010 at 4:36 am

@Remus6 Stick them on any track, anywhere, and they will hunt down and capture the fastest line then proceed to push their vehicle to it’s utmost limits to wring every hundredth of a second out of their time. That’s why they’re in F1 and that’s why they’re the best.

    No offense to Sabine. :)

  3. Rotard12a on April 19, 2010 at 5:01 am

@Remus6 Not a chance. She has no experience with open wheel and is likely too old to learn. She’s very skilled in touring cars and her reputation as a Nurburgring master well deserved, but you can’t just hop in the most advanced and demanding cars on Earth and set records because you are familiar with the track.

Anyway, the skill level of (most) F1 drivers is incomparable. Their driving genius is far beyond just knowing the car, it’s also the ability to go -anywhere- and be the fastest.

I wonder how Sabine Schmitz would do here on a F1 car. Being that she probably has the most laps on Nurburgring. I bet she would destroy everyone’s time. Lol.

  6. ctcosgrove on April 19, 2010 at 6:35 am

@wrxdrifter19 they don’t call it “the green hell” for nothing dude… they stopped racing because it was insecure, over 300km/h, without protections, in a 3 meter road, with hundreds of bumps, humps, etc… He cannot drive to car to its potential because the road draws the limit much earlier….

A F1 can take off on this track…

  9. monk3ypilot on April 19, 2010 at 8:06 am

ha, he didnt take on the old concrete banking :D

  10. ManKidDudeBro on April 19, 2010 at 8:11 am

its insane how fuckin fast he was going but he wasnt to the limit of the car…

  11. hobbienerd on April 19, 2010 at 8:28 am

anyone know what his time was?

  12. eatleta on April 19, 2010 at 9:10 am

Nossa essa pista é muito show! pena a qualidade do video ser tão ruim :/

  13. kendog39 on April 19, 2010 at 9:56 am

look this track is way to dangerous for this type of car . if he push the car to the limits ,the car would have went air born. He drove the car real smart .he is a good driver.

  14. GxiiT on April 19, 2010 at 10:12 am

Even without thrashing the balls off the car, and being extra careful in most places, he still managed to kick the the living sh*t out of the lap times set by pretty well every vehicle that goes round the ring, everyday.

  15. sbusterhyman on April 19, 2010 at 11:04 am

I think he was running Monaco gearing and aero package, very high ride height to cope with the bumps, and I believe the hardest compound tyres.

    @kweerkiller lol

  17. M2no3ntry on April 19, 2010 at 12:49 pm

    @Hasseta about 200 mph, i think
maybe even 350 kph, about 220 mph

  18. kweerkiller on April 19, 2010 at 1:02 pm

seriously, that guy is such a pussy… goin a couple hundred miles an hour on a track that he isnt used to in a 1000 hp go cart. get a grip man; you’re not half as cool as you think you are in your rice burnin scooby

  19. Hasseta on April 19, 2010 at 1:56 pm

how mych mph at the long staight?

  20. riz44 on April 19, 2010 at 2:13 pm

It could have been a lot quicker if he pushed it harder and didnt back off so early.. but around the Nurburgring you really cant blame him. It really isnt a track for an F1 car. The hills and sudden changes in altitude really screw around with the aerodynamics of the F1 car and its downforce… in the crests if your going too fast it will probably just catch flight.

I don’t think we’ll ever see anyone push an F1 car to the limit around the Nurburgring.. its just too dangerous

  21. f1racketeer on April 19, 2010 at 3:08 pm

For those commenting on how slow Heidfeld drove around the nordschliefe, try driving a highly strung F1 car at all, then try driving fast around a 13m track without letting off or making a mistake. Now that you have done that I bet you still couldn’t put the two together like Heidfeld did. He is one of the top 25 drivers in the world right now and way better than any of you and I doubt BMW would have been too happy with him wrecking the car.

What is Nick’s Mercedes helmet going to look like? Send me a picture of it please if you can find it

  23. vriend1 on April 19, 2010 at 4:33 pm

he did not go full speed..

  24. wrxdrifter19 on April 19, 2010 at 5:03 pm

thats annoying to see an F1 car on this track and not being setup or driven to its potential.

I’ve always wanted to see what an F1 car could run on this track…

  25. dawncomes on April 19, 2010 at 5:05 pm

@trenabolx I think he was told to cruise at some parts of the track. Read description.

  26. Pop Lyrics on April 19, 2010 at 5:10 pm
